This batch features plenty of queer supernatural comics, two girls love mangas that both oddly feature cardiac health issues, and a new queer fairy-tale collection from Melanie Gillman.
BLACKWATER HC GN
(W) Jeannette Arroyo (A) Ren Graham, Jeannette Arroyo
Riverdale meets Stranger Things in this debut queer YA graphic novel, developed from a hit webcomic. Tony Price is a popular high school track star and occasional delinquent aching for his dad's attention and approval. Eli Hirsch is a quiet boy with a chronic autoimmune disorder that has ravaged his health and social life. What happens when these two become unlikely friends (and a whole lot more...) in the spooky town of Blackwater, Maine? Werewolf curses, unsavory interactions with the quarterback of the football team, a ghostly fisherman haunting the harbor, and tons of high school drama.

Why this caught my eye:
I've really enjoyed the first few chapters online, highly recommend giving them a look and then supporting by picking up the print edition.
SIRIUS TP GN
(W) Ana C. Sanchez (A) Ana C. Sanchez
Dani's bright future as an elite tennis player comes to a sudden stop when, during a match, she has a heart attack. Her newly discovered condition affects not only her health, but also her relationship with her mother, as well as her career. Wanting to get away from everything, she leaves behind the big city ?- and all her problems ?- and goes with her cousin to a little coastal village. There she meets Blanca, a girl full of life and in love with astronomy. Blanca reminds Dani that life can be beautiful, and that she can shine again like stars do.

Why this caught my eye:
Preview pages looked cute, plus I just like Sánchez's art.
COVEN HC GN
(W) Jennifer Dugan (A/CA) Kit Seaton
In this queer, paranormal YA graphic novel debut from the author of Some Girls Do and the illustrator of Wonder Woman: Warbringer, a young witch races to solve the grisly supernatural murders of her coven members before the killer strikes again. Emsy has always lived in sunny California, and she'd much rather spend her days surfing with her friends or hanging out with her girlfriend than honing her powers as a fire elemental. But when members of her family's coven back east are murdered under mysterious circumstances that can only be the result of powerful witchcraft, her family must suddenly return to dreary upstate New York. There, Emsy will have to master her neglected craft in order to find the killer . . . before her family becomes their next target.

Why this caught my eye:
Love Seaton's artwork and really enjoyed her work on Norroway and Afar.
PULSE GN VOL 01
(W) Ratana Satis (A/CA) Ratana Satis
Mel, a renowned heart surgeon, is well-known for being a stoic loner. She views her erotic flings with other women as a tool for pleasure rather than a show of affection. When she delivers bad news to patients' families, her cold nature can make her seem heartless. Then she meets Lynn, a beautiful and spirited cardiac patient who needs a new heart, but refuses a transplant. The two women meet with minimal expectations but soon become enthralled in a relationship that changes everything for them both. MAY222117
Why this caught my eye:
I can't tell if the 'heartless' heart surgeon falling for the cardiac patient who needs a heart but refuses is bad taste or gloriously dumb, but this is the second girls love manga featuring actual heart attacks to pop up on this batch's radar so it gets a mention.
OTHER EVER AFTERS GN
(W) Melanie Gillman (A) Melanie Gillman
Once upon a time... happily ever after turned out differently than expected. In this new, feminist, queer fairy-tale collection, you'll find the princesses, mermaids, knights, barmaids, children, and wise old women who have been forced to sit on the sidelines in classic stories taking center stage. What if the giant who abducted you was actually thoughtful and kind? What if you didn't want to marry your handsome, popular, but cold-inside suitor? What if your one true love has all the responsibilities that come with running a kingdom? A gorgeous all-new collection in graphic novel format from a Stonewall Honor-winning author and artist.

Why this caught my eye:
Happy to see a new project from Gillman, creator behind As The Crow Flies and Stage Dreams. Also really happy to see them picked up by Random House Graphic as they do good work on their collections.
That's it for this batch, we'll hit up some horror on the next round!
