Upcoming Comics Spotlight: Crime/Suspense

Listen, I'm not saying that I want to be murdered with a tommy gun. But if I had to make a list of violent deaths that I would find acceptable, then the cover to Crime Confidential below certainly gave me something to aspire towards.

You'll see that I'll try to include a little order code with most items (ex:JUL200019). Show some love to your retailer and use those codes when you can, it saves a lot of time on the data entry end of things.

STRAY DOGS #1

(W) Tony Fleecs (CA) Tony Fleecs (A/CA) Trish Forstner

Lady and the Tramp meets Silence of the Lambs

It's scary being the new dog.

Sophie can't remember what happened. She doesn't know how she ended up in this house. She doesn't recognize any of these other dogs. She knows something terrible happened, but she just... can't...recall... WAIT! Where's her lady?

A five-issue Don Bluth-style suspense thriller by My Little Pony comic artists TONY FLEECS and TRISH FORSTNER, STRAY DOGS is Lady and the Tramp meets Silence of the Lambs.

DEC200019

Why this caught my eye:

Read a few early previews of this and yeah, that pitch of 'Lady and the Tramp meets Silence of the Lambs' is pretty spot on. It's such an odd and engaging juxtaposition between the art style and the mystery that the dog's master may be a serial killer. What's also disconcerting is that it deals with a realistic interpretation of a dogs memory, so they have an incredibly hard time staying focused on what's going on. Highly recommend giving it a shot.

Why this caught my eye:

A lot of great talents in this collection, and I'm always down for some Alex Toth. Mostly though, I'm in love with that cover and the perfect bullet handwriting of that gangster.

FEAR CASE #1

(W) Matt Kindt (A/CA) Tyler Jenkins

A new, horrific detective series by Matt Kindt (Ether, Mind MGMT) and Tyler Jenkins (Grass Kings)!

A no-nonsense Secret Service agent and his new-age partner investigate a mysterious box known as the "Fear Case," which has appeared throughout history at sites of disaster and tragedy. DEC200244

Why this caught my eye:

Like the concept and I like it when Kindt has a short and concise mini-series idea, so should be worth checking out.

FRIEND OF THE DEVIL HC A RECKLESS BOOK

(W) Ed Brubaker (A) Jacob Phillips (A/CA) Sean Phillips

The next book in the red-hot Reckless series is here!

Bestselling crime noir masters Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips are back with another new original graphic novel featuring troublemaker-for-hire Ethan Reckless.

It's 1985 and things in Ethan's life are going pretty well... until a missing woman shows up in the background of an old B-movie, and Ethan is drawn into Hollywood's secret occult underbelly as he hunts for her among the wreckage of the wild days of the '70s.

Another hit graphic novel from the award-winning creators of PULP, MY HEROES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN JUNKIES, CRIMINAL, and KILL OR BE KILLED -a must-have for all Brubaker and Phillips fans!

Why this caught my eye:

Obligatory heads up for Brubaker/Phillips crime fans. Feels like there's been quite a few new ones as of late so don't want ya to miss any of them!

UNDONE BY BLOOD OTHER SIDE OF EDEN #1

(W) Lonnie Nadler, Zac Thompson (A/CA) Sami Kivela

The early 1930's: The height of the Great Depression and beginning of the Dust Bowl. Silvano Luna Del Rio works as a postman in Buttar, Texas. Reeling from a tragic past, with only a gun and a Western novel to his name, Silvano sets out to take back from the country that took so much from him by robbing the first skyscraper West of the Mississippi. But acts of retribution are never as simple as they seem, as his target is home to an eccentric fraternal brotherhood hiding their own dark secrets.

By Silvano's side is an old west novel featuring famed gunslinger Solomon Eaton. As both stories unfold simultaneously, in true UNDONE BY BLOOD fashion, the mythic Western informs choices in reality, for better or worse.

From the minds of Lonnie Nadler and Zac Thompson (The Dregs, X-Men, HER INFERNAL DESCENT) and artist Sami Kivelä (Abbot, Tommy Gun Wizards) comes the next story in the critically acclaimed neo-western series that depicts the hard truths of seeking vengeance in the real world.

JAN211044

Why this caught my eye:

I really loved the first series, and the previews for this one look great. Absolutely love that Kivelä artwork.

That's it for this batch, we'll hit superheroes next time!
